Varanasi city is one of the oldest living cities in the world, located in Uttar Pradesh (U.P. State) of India. It is a multi religious, multi cultural city with approximately …………. Population. Apart from this population all most ……..population are travelers and migratory people from other states who come here for their religious rituals or some in search of job and livelihood. A major part of job seekers are from west Bengal, Bihar which has scarcity of jobs for low socio economic status people(Earning below Rs.2500 per month). Most of these families are uneducated and they don’t have any place to stay. such families settled down on the west bank of Ganga River between the Rajghat bridge and Assi , a place in the  South part of Varanasi.  Most of them stay in very small hut type of settlements (one room 2Í 3 meters) where there is lack of space, lack of water facility and other facilities which are needed for such migratory people and families. A prominent area near Assi Ghat (On the bank of Assi) is known as Nagwan locality. The male family members of these families work as a labor, rickshaw pullers or small skilled artisans whereas female members are family work as maid servants.

2- Generally , because of both of the family members are working, children of the family are  alone in the house or they are in the street wondering and doing small pity jobs such as selling of flowers, post cards, lamps, greeting cards or even getting involved  in gangs of drug pushers and pity crimes. And sometimes also being abused by the elders .

3- As it was observed by Jean-Max and Dr. Tulsi that a number of such children are wondering without any formal education, values in their life. It was thought to start a small preparatory center for these children.

4- As there were no place available for such preparatory school in 1999 it was started below a tree in a house in Assi area. The reason for choosing this area was firstly, because most of the children were from this area and it was the central place where children from Nagwan and Assi area can come walking without any difficulty. The reason for choosing this place was also because of Ms Manju who was very much motivated in helping us through her teaching skills. Also, as she was from the area she knew most of the families and families had confidence in her.
