A new introduction into the on going programme of  “DISCC”, which is called Navjeevan Project. ‘Navjeevan’ is a Hindi Word, which means, “giving a new life”. The project is aimed at catering to the different types of “leprosy” patients, their families & their children. The main aim is to give a new dimension to their life, so that they can have a place in the society as any other individual.  It was felt that it is this group of individuals and their families who are in the most neglected stream of the society in general. Most of such “Leprosy” patients who are either in the active phase of the disease or the passive phase, lead a miserable life.

Most of such leprosy patients earn their lively hood through begging and can be seen near the banks of Ganges River. More especially, near “DASHASHVMEDH GHAT”, “SANKAT MOCHAN TEMPLE”, Varanasi. There have been few efforts made by humanitarian people from national and international backgrounds to all acivet the problem here of time. But due to lack of very good cooperation and co-coordinators, these project have not continued for a long period or it has failed to each the  benefices.

Keeping the above points in mind, a small clinic  “NAVJEEVAN” has been started few months back (May-2000) near “DASHASHVMEDH GHAT”, VARANASI. Through “Navjeevan” Clinic, “DISCC”, staff conduct the bandaging, dressing and medical help, and try to fulfill the different needs of this community approximately 40 to 50 Leprosy Patients every week are, being helped through this programme.

There is no Government funding for the above projects. Thanks to friends residing in India and abroad and the generous donations and sponsorship, we have been able to bring up to this level.
